Everybody loves to get a compliment, but unfortunately research shows that most people tend to give more criticism than praise.
So, this Thanksgiving weekend pick someone who deserves a compliment and give it to them.
Four Easy Steps To An Effective Compliment
Not all compliments are created equal.
If you just say “great job”, it’s better than nothing but the recipient won’t get the full benefit of your appreciation.
Here’s an easy-to-use framework you can use to deliver a compliment that will have maximum impact on the receiver – and will take you minimum effort because you can text or tweet it using this formula.
To help you put this to use right away, I’ll give you an example of a compliment I recently texted to a friend of mine who had put on a real estate seminar that I attended. The words I used are in italics.
- Be sincere – don’t make something up and don’t be vague or generic. If you don’t truly have something nice to say, find someone else to compliment.
- Give the compliment – just say what you have to say. I enjoyed your seminar Tuesday night.
- Make it more general if possible. This will enhance the positive power of the compliment. Even though this has real value, you can skip it if you can’t be genuine doing this. Everybody loved it.
- Make it more specific. This is key to an effective compliment because it makes it real. The part about quality over quantity was spot on.

That’s it!
Easy and fast – do it now and make someone’s day!
PS. After you give your compliment, leave a comment and let everyone know how it turned out.
